Titan Villas – Villa Rhea is set just a 15-minute walk to a cluster of tavernas, cafes and a mini market in Plaka or enjoy the beautiful beaches just a 5 minute drive away.
Villa Rhea is just the sort of house we love, blending traditional wood and stone with creative contemporary design to great effect. It’s a blissful base for a family holiday, with a couple of single bedrooms as well as two doubles so the kids can claim a bit of private space for themselves. The attention to detail makes the adults feel pampered too, with hotel-quality Coco-mat beds, bathrobes, optional pool heating and a hydro-massage bath for a luxurious way to unwind in the comfort and privacy of your own villa.
You’ll probably want to spend most of your time outside however, lounging by the pristine pool and feeling the sunshine and the views melt away any pre-holiday stress.
The other lovely benefit of Villa Rhea is the wealth of things to see and do on the doorstep. You can walk into Plaka village for a traditional taverna lunch in its delightful square in about 15 minutes, and there are some village shops here for stocking up on the basics. About a kilometre further on is Almyrida, blessed with a gently shelving sandy beach, numerous watersports and a string of excellent restaurants for wonderful waterfront dining.
Crete is famously rich in antiquities, and you’ll find over 2000 years of history to delve into, from the ancient theatre of Aptera looking out towards the White Mountains, to the sombre Allied WWII cemetery where almost half of the 1,500 graves are unnamed. No holiday on this fabulous coast would be complete without a trip to the crumbling yet magnificent Chania town, easily accessible by car and with something to appeal to all ages and interests.
